The main element that ties my work together is the expression of emotion. When approaching a subject or idea for a new project, it is rarely the subject itself that I try to relate but the emotion that the subject provokes. The beginning of a project could be a person, an object, a concept or a situation which inspires me with an emotional reaction. A reaction that could be either precise and overwhelming, or sutil and elusive. The work that ensues is my attempt to capture and transform that intangible sensation into a concrete form in order to better understand it myself, and then share it with others.
Although the search for the expression of emotion does not vary, the methods and technics I use are very changing. The majority of my work falls under the category of fibre arts. I use textiles (thread, fabric, cord,..) and traditional textile methods (dying, weaving, sewing,..) to create murals, sculptures and installations. But I do not limit my work with specific materials or technics. If I find that a concept would relate better using another medium (plastic, metal, ceramic,..) or another technic, I would not hesitate to use any of them.
The fact is, I do not like to limit myself or my work. I prefer to explore all ideas freely, without restraints.
Le fil conducteur de mon travail artistique est l'expression de l'émotion. Quand j'approche un sujet ou une idée de travail, ce n'est pas le sujet en lui-même que je cherche à exprimer mais l'émotion qu'il provoque. Le départ d'un projet peut être une personne, un objet, un concept, ou une situation qui me transmet une émotion, soit précise et bouleversante, soit subtile et furtive. L'oeuvre qui surgit est ma tentative de capturer cette sensation intangible dans une forme concrète pour mieux la comprendre moi-même et ensuite la partager.
Si cette recherche d'expression de l'émotion ne varie pas, les méthodes de travail sont par contre très diversifiées. La majeure partie de mon travail s'inscrit dans la catégorie d'art textile. J'utilise des textiles (fil, tissu, cordages...) et des méthodes de fabrication traditionnelles (teinture, tissage, couture...) pour créer des compositions murales, des sculptures ou des installations. Je ne limite cependant pas mon travail avec des matériaux ou des techniques spécifiques. Si je pense qu'un concept peut être mieux exprimé en employant d'autre matériaux (plastique, métal, céramique…), je n'hésiterai pas à l'utiliser.
En effet, je n'aime pas me limiter ou limiter mon travail. Je préfère explorer toutes mes idées librement, sans contrainte.
